Join a First Day Hike at a New York State Park Near You

New York State Parks, Thu Dec 12 2019

What better way to kick off the New Year than by getting in some fresh air while exploring parks and trails! Staff from State Parks and DEC, along with volunteers and partners at many sites, will lead family-friendly walks and hikes, which range from one to five miles depending on the location and conditions.

HISTORY

First Day Hikes originated in Massachusetts in 1992 and since 2012, First Day Hikes have been held in all 50 states. In 2018 it became an international movement with Ontario Parks in Canada offering First Day Hikes.

In New York this year, State Parks and the Department of Environmental Conservation hosted 80 hikes and welcomed 7,548 people to help celebrate the New Year in the outdoors, breaking the previous record by more than 3,500 hikers.

Join one of our free First Day Hikes on January 1, 2020 at a location near you. Hope to see you on the trails!
