5. Fenton Lake State Park, New Mexico
Fenton Lake State Park is open year-round and available for plenty of activities in this stunning mountain area with lovely pine forests. Reservations can be made six months in advance so you can make sure you have the best campsite when you arrive. Bring your canoe so you can get out on the lake. Fish, hike, or simply enjoy the fresh air and sunshine at over 7,500 feet in elevation.
6. Indian Springs State Park, Georgia
Make reservations for next year’s well-planned vacation. Indian Springs State Park is a great place to come for boating on McIntosh Lake. There is a boat ramp from which to launch and you can even rent a pedal boat or an aqua cycle. A nature trail invites you into the forested surroundings where you can take a leisurely walk. There is also a 3.25-mile trail where you can hike or bike.
7. Carr Creek State Park, Kentucky
There are miles and miles of lovely shoreline at Carr Fork Lake. Make early reservations so you can bring your RV or your tent and stay at an excellent campground. A beautiful sandy beach makes soaking up the sun special fun. Birding here is something you don’t want to miss. The marsh provides plenty of shelter for green heron, great blue heron, wood ducks, bobwhite, and ruffed grouse. Listen to the calls of the warblers and the red-winged blackbird. Of course, birdwatching isn’t the only activity to enjoy here. You can fish for bass or walleye, picnic, or swim. You can make your reservations up to a year in advance.
8. Seminoe State Park, Wyoming
Seminoe State Park is nestled up against the base of the Seminoe Mountains at the North end of Seminoe Reservoir. One of Wyoming's true treasures, Seminoe State Park is known for its wide reservoir and great fishing for trout and walleye. The park and surrounding area offers some of the state’s best wildlife viewing opportunities. Campers may spot bighorn sheep, elk, mule deer, antelope, coyote, mountain lion, bobcat, and more.
